Understand your insurance before you buy it.
I’m Margaret Yiadom. I help families, business owners and people approaching retirement in Dumfries and Northern Virginia work out what they actually need from life insurance, health coverage and annuities, starting with the question rather than the product.

How a conversation with me works
- 1
Tell me what changed
A new baby, a house, a policy you cannot make sense of, a retirement date coming into view. Roughly is fine.
- 2
We look at what you already have
What you hold, what you owe and who depends on you. The gap, if there is one, comes out of that.
- 3
You decide, in your own time
If there is a gap worth closing, you see the options and what each costs. If there is not, I will say so.
Why this is worth an hour of your time
Most people buy insurance the way they renew a utility: once, under time pressure, from whoever asked first. Then it sits untouched for a decade while the mortgage, the children and the job all change around it.
Almost everything that goes wrong afterwards traces back to that. A policy sized before a house was bought. A beneficiary never updated after a divorce. Term coverage that quietly expired at sixty-five. An annuity signed without anyone reading out the surrender period. None of these are exotic failures. They are the ordinary result of nobody sitting down and going through it.
That is the work. I go through what you already have, what you actually owe and who depends on you, and we find the gap before talking about any product. Sometimes the answer is that you are adequately covered and should keep your money.
Three things I get asked about
Life Insurance
Work out the size of the gap first, then how long it needs covering. The policy type is the last decision, not the first.
What to check on life insurance →Health Insurance
The lowest monthly premium on the page is routinely the most expensive plan in a year when somebody gets sick.
How to compare health plans →Annuities
Useful for income you cannot outlive. The terms that decide whether it is a good one are usually the terms explained last.
How annuities actually work →

Life Insurance After a Major Life Change: What to Review First
Marriage, a new child, a mortgage, divorce, a business change, or retirement planning can all change what your family needs from life insurance.
Annuities
Annuities Explained Simply: Income, Guarantees, Fees, and Liquidity
Annuities can support retirement-income planning, but the details matter: product type, guarantees, fees, surrender periods, taxes, and liquidity all need a clear review.
There is no charge for the conversation, and nothing is decided in it.
